Student Symposiums

The WSIA Education Foundation sponsors symposiums for students majoring in risk management and insurance, actuarial science, finance or business. These are also open to any student interested in learning more about the industry. Attendees hear from wholesale, specialty and surplus lines professionals, and a variety of viewpoints are presented for a thorough discussion of the industry. Each symposium features a career fair and networking reception with professionals, enabling students to gain learn more about this exciting, and important segment of the insurance industry.

All two-day symposiums offer an Introduction to Underwriting session for upper-level university students who have taken multiple risk management and insurance classes or who have participated in related internships. This session goes in-depth on the topics of property and liability coverages. Participants are exposed to the underwriting process using real case studies, which enhance both broker and underwriting skill sets.
