2020 Annual Report

The 2020 WSIA Annual Report includes financial results as well as an overview of the association's work on behalf of members during the last year.

AM Best U.S. Surplus Lines - Segment Review

The annual financial review of the surplus lines industry has been prepared annually since 1994 by the AM Best Company, through a grant by the WSIA Education Foundation. The report provides results of solvency study of surplus lines industry and reviews current industry issues. The 2015 Executive Summary2016 Executive Summary2017 Executive Summary2018 Executive Summary2019 Executive Summary and 2020 Executive Summary are available at no charge to the public. The complete 2021 report is available to members online or by contacting WSIA. The complete report may be purchased from AM Best.

Emerging Issues & Innovation Committee Heat Map and Trend Reports

  • The WSIA Heat Map is developed and published every two years by the Emerging Issues & Innovation Committee. Members are surveyed to identify developing trends in the surplus lines industry and define their influence on business. The committee compiles responses and develops the Heat Map, which identifies the predominant themes and is available to members. WSIA  incorporates the results into future planning for education program curriculum and topics, member webinars and research topics for RMI students. 
  • Trend Reports are developed on emerging issues impacting the industry and have been recently updated to include COVID-19-specific implications and infographic summaries. These reports are updated periodically to incorporate current research.

Standard Broker Questionnaire

The Standard Broker Questionnaire was developed by WSIA to help carriers obtain general information from a prospective broker. The questionnaire is available to download.

Working With the Excess & Surplus Lines Market

A Working With The Excess & Surplus Lines Market brochure was developed with the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) as a way to provide information to agents on Submitting Bids, Financial Strength of the Industry, Eligibility to Write Policies, Financial Solvency, Claims and the Value of the Surplus Lines Broker.
