This message is to inform you that, after careful consideration of evolving travel and health concerns relative to the coronavirus, the SLA of UT in conjunction with the WSIA has decided to cancel the 2020 Spring Surplus Lines Law Group (April 2-3). This decision, while difficult, has been made in the consideration of the health and safety of Surplus Lines Law Group attendees.

While we believe that canceling or rescheduling events is the right thing to do, we understand personal views of this decision will vary by attendee. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) continues to state that the risk for travel and contagion within the U.S. is believed to be low. However, we are erring on the side of caution and want to be sensitive to the health and peace of mind of our attendees as the facts and understanding of the virus change rapidly. Several nonadmitted carriers and wholesale firms are implementing policies restricting nonessential business travel. As a result, we have elected to cancel the 2020 Spring Surplus Lines Law Group. We recommend that all attendees take any necessary steps to cancel your travel plans as soon as possible, and we apologize for any nonrefundable travel costs you may incur as a result.

WSIA plans to distribute materials to all attendees in early April, and we will plan to reconvene in Philadelphia, PA when the 2020 Fall Surplus Lines Law Group (October 8-9) is hosted by the Pennsylvania Surplus Lines Association.

If you have any questions, please contact Sylvia Bruno, SLA of Utah Executive Director, at sbruno@slaut.org, or John Meetz, WSIA Senior State Relations Manager, at john@wsia.org.
