Extreme Risk Takers Symposium Series

The WSIA Education Foundation sponsors the Extreme Risk Takers Symposium Series for students majoring in risk management and insurance, actuarial science, finance or business and are held in various locations around the country. These are also open to any student interested in learning more about the industry. Attendees hear from wholesale, specialty and surplus lines professionals, and a variety of viewpoints are presented for a thorough discussion of the industry. Each symposium features a career fair and networking reception with professionals, enabling students to gain learn more about this exciting, and important segment of the insurance industry. 


Extreme Risk Takers Symposium for Risk Management and Insurance Majors (Virtually delivered program)

Hosted by Troy University’s Sorrell College of Business, symposium presenters work in the wholesale, specialty and surplus lines industry and share their passion and expertise with participants. The event generally attracts 175-200 students from more than 20 universities as well as 15-20 firms that participate in the career fair.

Extreme Risk Takers - Los Angeles

This one-day symposium is hosted by the Risk Management Program within the Leventhal School of Accounting at the University of Southern California. The symposium is designed for risk management students as well as others who may be interested in an insurance career and is open to all students, regardless of university affiliation.

  • Registration will open in January 2021. 
  • Student registration is $25 and includes: networking and educational sessions, Career Fair, lunch and inclusion in the symposium resume booklet. Faculty registration is available at no charge.
  • Faculty/Educator Registration - No charge
  • Career Fair Registration (no charge) and includes: Career Fair booth for up to four attendees, copy of symposium resume booklet and lunch prior to the Career Fair.

Extreme Risk Takers - Chicago

March 26-27, 2021
Embassy Suites by Hilton Chicago Downtown Magnificent Mile | Chicago, IL

Hosted by the Alpha Kappa Chapter at the Katie School of Insurance at Illinois State University, industry professionals are featured speakers, and the symposium attracts 150-175 students from more than 20 universities.

Registration

  • Student registration is $25 and includes: networking and educational sessions, Career Fair, meals (Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner), inclusion in the symposium resume booklet and discounted hotel room rate. 
  • Faculty/Educator Registration - No charge
  • Career Fair Registration is $300 and includes: Career Fair booth for up to four attendees, copy of symposium resume booklet and lunch prior to the Career Fair.

Extreme Risk Takers - Santa Barbara

April 2021

This half-day symposium is hosted by the Actuarial Science Program at the University of California - Santa Barbara. This shortened program will highlight the wholesale, specialty and surplus lines industry, with a focus on actuarial and data analytics opportunities. This symposium is open to all students, regardless of university affiliation.
